Both woke in the early hours this morning at 4.30 am, thought it was later as dawn had broke. Snoozed on and off till 7.00 then opened the curtains to see a couple of Deer grazing outside the van. Watched in disbelieve for a while until they caught site of us and darted back into the forest. One thing this trip has had is an abundance of wildlife and wild flowers, we will miss it when we get home.
Gas ran out just as we boiled water for a brew so swopped for the spare . Only a day or so left in the spare so we set off back to a caravan & campsite a couple of mile up the road. They had sold out !
Decided to pick one up later in Fort William so carried on our way stopping at the nearby Foyers Falls. A fantastic water fall dropping a couple of hundred feet into a black pool. Information boards said that it was Scotlands third biggest tourist attraction in the 1800 and I can see why. In later years some of the water was diverted to run a hydro electric plant. Still impressive though and makes you wonder how it must have been.
Back on the road we stopped at the Suidhe Viewpoint , high up with impressive panaramic views for miles.
We stopped at a man made Loch ( can't recall the name ) for lunch before dropping down to Fort Augustus. A very pretty place built around the impressive flight of five locks that connects Loch Ness with the Caledonian Canal. We didn't time the visit well as half a dozen coaches of tourists tipped up as we got out the van, spoilt it really but worth another visit in the future.
Eventually found a Gaz refill at a campsite just outside of Fort William, it was getting towards tea time so we looked for a spot and by chance pulled it a Forestry commission picnic site overlooking Loch Eil towards Fort William. Apart from two other vans the site was quite so we sat back enjoying the evening sun while we ate supper
Miles today 73.
