A tour of Crete 4

Woke to the sound of rain falling again !! So once again went down to the harbour for breakfast. By the time we had finished the sun was shining again, seems to be a pattern developing !
We set off with the intention of trying to get to Vai beach, famous for its Palm trees that grow only at this spot and nowhere else in the world. It was for this reason it was used for Bounty bar adverts. we would see how the weather turned out once we had ridden over the mountains. It felt good to be riding in the warm and we passed by some beautiful looking beaches before starting to climb up the mountains. The views were fantastic and we stopped for a quick photo. On again we continued to climb up the Orno mountains and then suddenly the cloud descended and the wind picked up. We carried on to the summit expecting to see better weather on the other side, but it was black as far as you could see. It was very cold and the cold wind was starting to affect a bad tooth I have been nursing for the last week or so. It became unbearable so we turned around and retraced our steps to the little village of Sfaka. We then took a sharp left and within 3 km arrived at a beach called Thomos. Totally secluded and unspoilt apart from a small taverna and car park. We decided to take some time out and lay on the beach for a couple of hours warming up in the now red hot sun, complete with a cold beer, heaven.
It was getting on towards 6.00pm and the bike was due to be returned before the hire shop closed at 8.00 so we reluctantly made our way back to Elounda.
Great bike the Honda Trans Alp 750 , rode well and would not hesitate to hire the same model next time, roll on next year !
