Woke again to the sun shining through the cracks in the blinds. Unusually ,the air had a chill. Looking out, the grass was thick with due, all signs that the summer's on its way out. Had breakfast in the sun, emptied the waste tank , topped up the freshwater and with a bitter sweet feeling got onto the road at 9.30.
It was warming up quickly and we soon had the windows down and the air vents on full as we drove off the island and back on to the mainland. It was a simple job of retracing our steps back up the slow and winding coast road. But , with the clear skies and good viability it was a pleasing drive compared to the journey down a few weeks ago when the views had been spoilt by low cloud and rain. Pulled over for a a leisurely lunch around 1.00 amd sat in the sun for an hour or so taking in the views of all the many islands sitting in such a deep blue sea, never get fed up of seeing it.
By 3.00 we had made it back to Senj and we started to look out for a camp knowing that we couldnt use the same one as we used on the way down as it closed at the end of September. Then coming out of Povile we could see half a dozen vans parked up on the headland. The site was still open ! Not quite believing our luck we pulled in. Reception was deserted so we helped ourself and will sort out payment in the morning. Grabbing a brew and the sun loungers we nipped down to the beach for the last couple of hours of sunshine, staying till the sun sank below the sea. After all, it will be the last for a while !
