woke early to yet more rain. Back on the motorway the traffic and weather begain to improve as we reached the Austrian border. Pulled in and purchased the all important Vignette , better to pay a small sum now than risk getting pulled up and a big fine. The Alps came into view when we pulled in for lunch, stretching into the distance, tops shrouded in cloud. Passing into Slovenia we stopped and picked up another vignette before entering the tunnels that would take us to the other side of the Alps and hopefully warm weather. Sat nav gave the altitude of 4000 ft as we enterd tha last one, snow coverd the mountain and the road disappeared into it as if it had been swollowed. Out the other side and not long after the sun shone. We headed for Bled and a campsite that we had used last time we came this way some five years ago on the BMW motorbike. Satnav was trying to put us on to a main road but I could see a minor road heading over a mountain pass, it would save us some time so I turned off. Bit of a mistake as the road begain to snake up the mountain. Warning signs said no caravans so l thought we should be ok and calmed down once I saw a delivery van come the other way. The road got steeper though and we soon was struggling along in 1st gear , passing the summit we rolled down the road with a beautiful view of what I believe was the Dolomite mountain range. We pulled in took a few photos and the smell from the van was alarming, the climb must have got the engine hotter than it had been since coming out the factory ( it had only done 4500 mile when we picked it up, hardly run in ! ) it was getting late as we pulled into the site and pitched just as darkness began to fall. Total miles today 371
Note - All blogg write ups have been done taken from notes as my phone packed up the next day. After some messing about I eventually got my blogger account up and running on my tablet, hence the poor quality of the photo's.
