Note - the next 5 days posts have been written from memory as the app crashed and lost my drafts while I was off line.
Woke as the sun just popped it's head up above the lock and peacefuly rose into the still air. We sat and just watched with a morning cuppa taking in the view. We packed up and had a short stroll along the loch before setting off. The fact that we didn't have any time frame or schedule to stick to was still hard to remember !
Not sure of the route but we came across a large expanse of open moor with a nameless Loch ( according to the sat nav ) and pulled in to take the view before continuing to Loch Duich and following its banks until we reached Eilean Donan Castle , said to be the finest in Scotland, not sure about that but was certainly the best we've seen this trip. We considered looking around inside but I was heaving with Japanese tourists so we nipped into the village and picked up supplies, Angie wrote and sent postcards to the grand kids.
Stopping for lunch , not sure where, we sat in the sun for a while. Not long after the most spectacular view opend up of Loch Maree in the distance at the bottom of a long Glen, we pulled in for photos before stopping in Kinlochewe for icecream. Following the shore for what seemed some time then the road swung West to Gairloch. It was about 4.00 pm when we arrived, and I tried to recall the campsite that I stayed on as a child 40 odd years ago. I recalled it was in amongst sand dunes so we headed for the beach and follpwed a campsite sign .Fortunately there's only one site in the area and it was still the same one! The most perfect spot overlooking a sandy bay and facing south. We checked in and found a quiet spot before going for a walk along the beach.
Cracking day and only 99 miles on the road.
