Both had the worst night's sleep in over a month, not sure why but the van wasn't very level and it was the first night since leaving the same aire a month ago that we have had to use a sleeping bag as it was pretty cool down to 9 deg. Anyway we gave up trying to sleep and had a cup of tea ( in the cold as the leisure battery was flat and couldn't power up the heater ! ) and set of at around 5.30am
Roads deserted and we made good progress only stopping to get photos of the sun rising over the mountains, one of the best I've seen for a long time.
Driving for around 3 hours we reached over 4000 ft above sea level and it really began to cool down, yesterday morning it was 25 deg at this time of day ad it was now around 10 !
Picked up some lunch just before Pampalona and pulled of the route in search of a nice spot to pull in. Eventually found a man made lake with views spoilt by low cloud. Checking the sat nav I decided to take the mountain pass into France rather than the lower main road that would be full of lorries. Good decision, it took an hour o's so longer but was well worth it with a single track road winding it's way through a birch forest, trees some how clinging to the side of the mountain with water falls and brooks full due to the rain.
Rain turned to snow for a short while until we began the decent to the border and it turned back to rain, thankfully.
Filled up in Spain for €1.11 ltr before crossing into France.
Pulled into the aire a little late and realised we didn't have change for a ticket ( usually it's a payment at this one ) change found in the village and ticket obtained at €8.00 we parked up at 7.30.
Cracking day and around 380 miles
