20th February - Mojacar .

Weather looked mixed again this morning,  warm but not a lot of sun so we set off out again. The plan was to pick up the last of the supplies before our trip home and then jump on the A7 to Mojacar, a mountain village near the coast and about  an hours drive away.
Van stuffed full and back on the A7 the heavens opened , it rained for a good half hour making it the third rainy day in nearly three weeks, not bad for February !!
The rain had stopped by the time we got to Mojacar,  we drove through checked it out and decided to head for the coast, grab some lunch and come back In  the afternoon.
The coast was only five minutes drive from the village. Bit of a shock when we got the seafront.  Miles of touristy shops, restaurants and bars including the dreaded  " original Irish pub". We deove to the end of the strip , found a small car park on the beach and had lunch watching huge waves crashing in.
The sun was out now and just gone 14.00  and so we headed back to Mojacar parked up easily and I cemented on how quiet it was since the visit earlier this morning.
Walking up the the centre the shops and  ars were closed up. Angie looked at me disappointed with the word siesta ! This wasnt the first time we had been caught out and I'm sure it won't be the last. Mojacar will Have to wait for the next visit!
Eager not to waste the day I decided to travel up the coast road back to Almeria rather than the motorway. Checking my Philips road atlas it showed another scenic route , its not often wro g so we followed this out of the busy strip towards the peace and unspoilt Carboneras. The road clung to the clifftop before twisting its way down to sea level, with beautiful views the trusted old atlas delivered again. Pulling up on a deserted beach we had a brew then explored the beach for an hour.
Back at the van I spotted another route back to Almeria via a mountain road so we took that option. It passed through Sorbas a pretty mountain town and then mile after mile of Olive trees making the biggest Olive grove we've ever seen.
The sun was now starting to set as we travelled through the valley surrounded by mountains. I had read somewhere that this area had been used as a location  to film Westerns back in the 70's as it looks just like the "wild west". Just as we spoke about it we turned a bend to see an old film set in the distance complete with indian teepee.  We had to stop for a photo well you have to, dont you ?
Back to the van just as dark fell. Another great day out exploring.
