Day 12 - Istanbul

Lay in late Today must be the comfort of a bed ! Had breakfast on the roof terrace with views over the Bosphorus in the one direction and the Blue Mosque in the other. It was a little cloudy and cooler than yesterday so we made plans for the day while we tucked in to the Turkish breakfast.
Back at the room we packed up the gear for the day and on checking the safe realised Angie's passport was missing !! We searched high and low but could not find it so reported it to the reception who persuaded us to carry on with our plans for the day and they would check the room while it's cleaned. We reluctantly agreed and off we went.
First we visited the Blue mosque, amazing building that I can't begin to describe. It had one large central dome surrounded by smaller ones other than two flying buttress's I could not work out how it stayed up ! The que to get in stretched around the inner courtyard for a long way so we decided to come back later in the day.
We headed for the Grand Bazar, reportedly the largest covered market in the world. Arriving through one of the many elaborate gated entrances was strange, it was more like entering an old castle. The whole area is splitt up into small walk ways cross crossing each and going on for ever, Angie was in her elements but I just felt I'll at the thought of all that shopping !
By the time we left the Bazar it was late afternoon so we returned to th hotel. Unsurprisingly they had not found the passport so we made arrangements to go to the British Embassy in the morning.
Later that evening we went back out for supper and visited the Blue Mosque on the way. With hardly a que in site we walked straight in after removing our shoes and Angie covering up.
Well I thought the outside was great but inside took it to another level.
The whole of the inside was decorated and with stained glass windows it was a riot on your visual senses that I can't describe other than to say go check it for yourself!
We ate supper at a restaurant that served you on a roof top terrace with amazing views as the sun went down and the Mosques lite up.
After supper we wondered around the square with the cameras working overtime before returning to our hotel.
