I would love to say that we woke to a glorious sunny morning but I would be lying. It had rained heavy most of the night and the wind was of gale force. In fact it was so bad we both had to put our ear plugs in to sleep ! Packed up and was on the road for 10.00am. It was still cold very windy but at least it was dry,for a while. By the time we had climbed up out of Senj and joined the A1 motorway it had started to rain. After a hour or so of rain and temperatures at 9.50c ( according to the motorway info boards ) we had enough and stopped for fuel and early lunch. The equivalent of thirty quid and nearly two hours later we were well and truly stuffed with the best service station food we have ever eaten.
Warmed by the food we pressed on , weather still cold and raining on and off until we literally came to the end of this newly built motorway at Ploce. The strangest thing then as we dropped down to the coast the temperature warmed dramatically . We pulled over and for the first time since leaving home removed our waterproofs and thermal linings , great at last !
We then folowed the E65 coast road through Albania, back into Croatia. This part of the coast line is nothing short of spectacular, with hundreds of tiny islands scattered in the clear blue sea.
