Day 22 - Goodbye Turkey !

Had the worse night sleep ever, not sure why. The wind blew hard all night with a cold chill in the air. By the early hours we had to climb into the sleeping bags to keep warm. Felt strange as we had been lying on top of them to try and keep cool since Croatia in early September.
Woke Angie with a mug of tea and we sat a while. The supply of Tetley tea bags was running low, just another sign that the trip was nearer the end than the start. We both agreed not to be miserable, after all we had another nine days of riding and fingers crossed we could hold up for a night or two in Croatia and enjoy the last bit of sun. We got stuck into the packing and was on our way at just gone 9.00 am.

The sky was grey and heavy looking and the wind still blew strongly with a definite chill to it. We even thought about pulling over to put the wind proof layers on under the bike gear but by 10.00 ish it was feeling warmer. We climbed up from sea level leaving the very busy tourist area of Kucukkuyu far below. We were still on the D550 as it twisted up into the pine clad mountains. We joined this road just outside of Didim and would stay on it until later today when we would turn off near the border crossing with Greece. We soon arrived at Kepez and the small ferry port where we would catch the ferry to Eceabat. The port was ghostly quiet as we pulled up to the ticket office. Then we found out why, the next ferry was over one hour away! We sat and stuffed ourselves with cheese and crackers trying to get warm in the strong wind blowing in from across the sea.
