The heat of the sun on the tent woke me up. Great I thought, we might get the tent dry and sleeping bags aired. Then I looked out to see heavy grey clouds. Angie was not impressed. " Let's move on and get some sun" she said. I wasn't to keen as we had not started to pack and it was now past 9.30 . When on the move we can pack and unpack the bike in 20 mins no problem but we had been on the site for four days and we had crap all over the place. By 11.00 we had it sorted and walked up to the office to pay and get the all important passports. Now those that know me well say I'm tight, I'm not I'm just careful with my money. On booking in I made a note of the price per night and had the correct money ready to pay the guy in the office. I handed over the €60 and he asked me for another €60 !!" Hold on" I said pointing at the info board "that's not correct", "yes it is sir you have to pay for the tent as well as per person" said tge greek guy with a smug grin on his face. We paid up and left, beautiful site, no denying it but not sure its worth what they charge.
We took a couple of hours to get off the peninsula and onto the main road up through the mountains to Polygyros. Cracking road, smooth and very twisty. The smell of the pine forrest and wild herbs filled my helmet and even the sun started to shine, it was good to be on the move again.
By 2.00 ish we had joined the E90 motorway and things speeded up. Even though it was a motorway it was not a boring ride. It followed the coast and some of the bends were sharp by British standards so it kept some interest going. By 4.30 ish we approached Alexandroupolis, this is not to far from the Turkish border. Not wanting to be messing around with border crossings and then looking for a campsite I decided to head for a site I new to be just outside Alexandro'. Found the site no problem. Large, clean and mostly empty at €17.00 a night , result I booked in.
Must be because it is conveniently Placed on one of the main routes out of Turkey because as we put the tent up other travellers piled in. Strange listening to all the different languages in one place. I saw one lad from france who was returning from southern Turkey on his own as well as a young girl backpacking her way to Turkey! I felt a bit of a cheat with the bike.
